Crowd Scout 4967 app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Weston Bustraan
First release : 03 Apr 2023
App size: 8.14 Mb
On FIRST robotics team 4967, That ONE Team, we wanted to replace our paper scouting process with something that was easier and faster for scouters to use and produced more accurate results.
With this app, the process looks like this:
1. Install the app on (at least) 6 tablets, 3 red and 3 blue
2. Members of the team watch each match and follow their assigned team (i.e. Red 2), using the app to mark down how the team performs
3. One of the tablets acts in the "Central" role and collects, via Bluetooth Low Energy, the match records from the other tablets
4. The central tablet can then either export the collected records to another app as CSV, or upload the data to a Google Sheets spreadsheet
Because WiFi access can sometimes be spotty at competitions, the app was designed to minimize its of use of WiFi, typically needing it only for two operations: fetching match information from The Blue Alliance and uploading to Google Sheets. Once the data is retrieved from TBA, it will be cached indefinitely, so it only really needs to be refreshed when the match schedule is posted.
